HeART Association for Psychological Health & Support

YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT

The Art of Hearing (HeART) Psychology Association of International Students was established in 2017.

Purpose

The purpose of this association shall be-to assist OEC Psychology Center in terms of some related activities or may undertake events to ensure the comfort stay of International Students in Jiangsu University. Also, to organize programs to help students adapt to campus life, overcome homesickness and

overcome culture shock challenges among others

Objectives / Aims

a. To organize events in order to reduce emotional stress

b. To increase mental health awareness among students

c. To support OECian’s psychological well-being

MAJOR EVENTS

Mind matters

The event was attended by about 30+ students. This event focused on breaking the stigma around mental health issues and building empathy towards it and those experiencing it by having students discuss different cases of mental health issues and have them come up with an approach to managing these issues.

Mind in Colour

- An Annual Art Gala held by HeArt that celebrates art art, mental health and self-expression. An event where participants get to submit various types of art work (pencil sketches, paintings, photos ,etc) on the theme“Mind in Colour” and their work was portrayed in OEC building for a week ,where other Oecians can view and vote for the best artwork that they think embodied the theme well.

Trait Code

- Trait Code was as an event

organized by HeArt and attended by about 70 students.This event helped Oecians discover themselves by doing a personality test. It was fun filled with games and small prizes and it helped students understand different types of personalities and how to connect with each other .

The Safe Space

HeArt in collaboration with Jewels association organized a structured lively debate attended by 100+ students which involved debate discussions by various teams on topics centered around the theme

“Safe space; a mental health debate on Women’s affairs”. Best debate teams were selected by a judge panel and winning teams were later offered certificates.

Walk towards wellness

An event organized by HeArt that involved a mindful nature walk, interactive team games and simple yoga. The was attended by 30+ oec students. This event allowed Oecians to take a break from daily academic stresses, be outdoors ,interact with other students and simply move, breathe and reset.

DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

Head of Association

i. Shall preside over executive meetings.

ii. Shall direct and oversee the affairs of the Association.

iii. Shall represent the Association in official meetings and activities.

iv. Shall ensure the objectives of the Association are achieved.

Head of Association

Vice Head of Association

i. Shall assist the Head of Association in carrying out duties.

ii. Shall act in the absence of the Head of Association.

iii. Shall coordinate members and support the activities of the Association.

Counseling and Peer Support Officer

i. Shall provide peer support and mental health awareness to students.

ii. Shall organize counseling, wellness, and support programs for members and students.

iii. Shall ensure confidentiality in counseling and peer support matters.

iv. Shall work towards promoting students’ emotional and psychological well-being.

Art and Media Officer

i. Shall manage the Association’s social media platforms.

ii. Shall create and design posters, flyers, banners, and other media materials for the Association.

iii. Shall promote the activities and image of the Association through media and creative content.

Publicity and Welfare Officer

i. Shall publicize all Association programs, meetings, and events.

ii. Shall ensure members’ welfare and support during Association activities.

iii. Shall assist in organizing events and maintaining communication with members
