The Overseas Education College (OEC) of Jiangsu University (B&R College of International Talents, International Organization Talent College affiliated) was independently established in 2011. OEC serves as the organization in charge of the recruiting, educating, and managing international students at JSU. OEC continuously improves its service and education model, making JSU one of the first universities in China to pass the Higher General Education Accreditation for International Students in China (HGEAIS) and received an excellent A grade in the re-accreditat, earning an 8-year accreditation validity (one of only 7 universities nationwide, and the only one in Jiangsu).JSU is a CSC university for international students and a target university for studying in Jiangsu. It has been repeatedly recognized as an "Advanced Univeristy for International Student Education in Jiangsu Province."
OEC consistently ranks among the top in Jiangsu Province in terms of the number of international students, who come from over 110 countries across five continents, with more than 54% being master and PhD students. OEC has established a talent training system led by international faculty training, exemplified by the "2+2" joint program for undergraduate studying in China, and primarily focused on cultivating "Belt and Road" talents with dual competencies.
In 2020, OEC established an International Organization Talent Class, creating a cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural international training platform. It developed an undergraduate education plan for international students, integrating industry collaboration and order-based training, and has built 23 undergraduate programs taught in English, including Clinical Medicine, Business Administration, International Trade, Accounting, Financial Management, E-commerce, Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Mechanization and Automation, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, Food Safety and Inspection, Stomatology, Visual Communication Design, Information Management and Information System, Finance, Marketing.
As of October 2023, the college has established nearly 500 English-taught courses, with four courses approved as Ministry of Education brand courses taught in English, and 25 courses passing the evaluation for high-quality English-taught courses in Jiangsu Province. The fully English-taught graduate programs include 45 master's degree first-level disciplines and 15 doctoral degree first-level disciplines. OEC has built an international student scholarship system that includes the Chinese Government Scholarship, International Chinese Teacher Scholarship, Jiangsu Government Scholarship, JSU Presidential Scholarship, Department Scholarship, Outstanding Student Scholarship, Social Contribution Scholarship, and Enterprise Scholarship.
OEC continuously optimizes services and management for international students, building a mentoring service system and a credit system based on self-education, self-management, and self-service. It has formed 13 international student association oriented toward academic, professional, and self-management goals, supporting the growth of globally competent international talents who are knowledgeable about and friendly to China, fostering a strong international atmosphere on campus. Some signature events and activities such as the International Culture Festival, Silk Road-Plum Blossom Forum, Experiencing China, Travel in China, China in the eyes of Chinese and overseas youth, etc. draw much attention and enjoy great popularity.
JSU International students have achieved numerous accolades, including a gold medal in the 2023 Global Brand Planning Competition Finals (the only one nationwide for international students), four first prizes in the national finals of the 2023 "Belt and Road" International Student Business Elite Challenge Brand Planning Competition (the highest number nationwide), championships in the "Chinese Dubbing Competition" at the China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week, second place in the global finals of the "Hundred Nations Youth Forum on the Community of Human Destiny Chinese Competition," and the Most Creative Award in the "Chinese Bridge" One-Minute Chinese Creative Challenge.
JSU refines its disciplinary strengths, aligns with market demands, and focuses on the "Belt and Road" initiative to deepen the integration of industry and education. The International Agricultural Machinery Training Project has been selected as a "Small but Beautiful" project of the "Belt and Road" in Jiangsu Province, and JSU has cooperated with the UNIDO to establish the "Global Agriculture Modernization and Food Safety Education and Training Center." JSU has collaborated with over 60 overseas universities, including the University of Nigeria and the University of Sierra Leone, to jointly establish the "Belt and Road" university faculty Ph.D. program, enrolling over 100 faculty Ph.D. students. Agreements have been signed with Jalisco State in Mexico and other entities for government-funded school-enterprise cooperative order-based master's talent training. The college has also partnered with well-known enterprises such as Jiangsu Yueda and Longshun Metal to train technical talents through order-based programs.
In the future, JSU will strive to build a "strong, comprehensive, and prominent" brand for studying in China at Jiangsu University and contribute Jiangsu University's wisdom and model to the national endeavor of international education.
