10 September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day all over China every year. Some believe the choosing of this day to mark the celebration is due to the similar pronunciation between the word "teacher" (教师 jiao shi) and the two digits 9 (九jiu), 10 (十shi) in the date.

In an advance commemoration of this year’s Teachers’ day, Jewels Ladies Association, supported by OEC, led the OECians in giving our teachers heartily tribute for their hard efforts of shaping our future, and that of the world as a whole.

Thursday 7 September was a day filled with lots of joy, happiness and enthusiasm as students surprised some of their favourite teachers with a shot in the arm activity, which involved showing appreciation to the teachers through presentation of gifts, in the form of cards and flowers. The beautiful cards were handmade by quite artistic and crafty Jewels.

Presentation of these appreciation tokens started as early as 09:30am and lasted throughout the whole day, with teachers being caught unaware during their lectures, in their offices, during practical classes, and even at the parking lots. It was all emotions as teachers could not hold in their joy towards such a gesture.

The gifts and few words are hardly enough to show our gratitude to our teachers for enriching our minds and broadening our horizons. They make us aware of where we are lacking in knowledge and skills and inspire us to become better and better with each passing day, especially due to their encouragement and support. We appreciate their time, their patience, their knowledge, and their enthusiasm. Indeed good teachers are a rare breed, and no one deserves bigger thanks than them.

May their contribution in students’ lives be way more than just measurable.
