‘IKCEST & ICEE INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING EDUCATION TRAINING’

Tsinghua University’s Department of International Center of Engineering Education (ICEE) with the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) held its maiden Engineering Education Training for international students in Beijing at the Tsinghua University campus.

The workshop was held from 5-14th November 2017 with a total of 20 participants which consisted of delegates from different countries including of Zambia, Ghana, Kenya, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Ji ZHOU, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) gave welcome speech and said the programme was to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to participants in the national level Technology Application.

Four Engineering Students from Jiangsu University were selected to take part in this workshop: OPPONG PAUL KWABENA (OPK) – PhD AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING, SHEILA RUTH CHILONGA – BSc MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, ALI SAJID – BSc MECHANICAL ENGINEERING and ABBAS HASNAIN – BSc MECHANICAL ENGINEERING.

IKCEST aims at connecting engineering sciences and technology institutions globally, assembling various digital resources relating to engineering sciences and technology, building up a public data service platform and corresponding service environment. It seeks to coordinate the building of various professional knowledge systems, thus providing knowledge-based services at a global scale in the form of consultancies, scientific research and education for policy-makers and engineering science and technology professionals in the world, with particular reference to the developing countries.

What was amazing about the Training workshop?The theme was “Promote Cooperation with African Engineering Education for the Online Engineering Education in Africa’’ The training workshop aimed at helping students from developing countries cultivate talent and build capacity in the field of information technology and improving the data aggregating, processing, analyzing capabilities of professionals to better support sustainable development and introduce the Tsinghua Education Online Program called Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) which is organized by XuetangX.com.The training workshop provided the following learning experiences to the participants:❖ Learning key principles related to China’s Railway (High-Speed Train) Science & Technology – A force to Achieve China’s Dream – Prof Kang Jincheng, Chinese Academy of Engineering.❖The cultivation of Engineering Technological Talents and Quality Assurance – Prof Yu Shouwen, Tsinghua University.❖ The Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers – Prof Jian Lin, Tsinghua University❖ Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) – Prof Wang Shuang, XuetangX.com

The training workshop included some visits to places like: The China State Grid, The Chinese Academy of Engineering, The Beijing Capital Museum, Tsinghua University Museum and Tsinghua I-center of Innovative Engineering.

At the end of the workshop, the participants were required to take an examination with the closing address coming from Ji ZHOU, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) followed by presentation of certificates to all participant.
