On the 16th of January 2018, some of the Chinese and Overseas students of the School of the Environment and Safety Engineering of Jiangsu University, who registered for the course-‘progress in water pollution control’ embarked on an interesting and educative trip to the two famous waste water treatment plants in Zhenjiang.

The journey begun at exactly 9:00 am. 37 students were put into two groups with a professor in each group. One group visited the Jingkou Waste Water Treatment Plant, while the other visited the 2nd Waste Water Treatment Plant in the New District Area.

The main aim of the educational trip according to Professor Zhao Rujin, the course tutor, was to help students understand the technical mechanisms of environmental protection equipments and the processes (biological) of waste water treatment.

Students were warmly welcomed by the directors of the two factories. We were taken round the whole facility to observe the plant/facility, mechanisms and processes involved in the biological treatment of waste water.

Also, the machinery operations, the architectural layout and treatment cost involved in the entire process were explained to us.

Students learned a lot and enjoyed the educational trip. The physical perspective of the theories learned in class had been observed and deepened our understanding. The trip also encouraged most students to undertake research and experiments seriously to bring to light novel approaches to enhance effective treatment of waste water. Also, the trip intensified the relationship between the Chinese and Overseas students in the exchange of culture and knowledge.

At the end, most of us had wished to work in such a facility!
