White Coat Ceremony | A Proud Moment for 2018 Medicos

The White Coat Ceremony has become one of the most important traditions of IMSA. This rite of passage serves as a symbolic welcome into the medical profession. On the 28th October 2018, students cloak in their white coats-bearing an IMSA logo and shiny stethoscopes to recite The Hippocratic Oath. They pledged their commitment to their profession with a fascinating twist. The dean of OEC decided to celebrate her birthday with freshmen at the white coat ceremony. The occasion was more exceptional from previous ones.

Welcoming the students to the School of Medicine and school of pharmacy, Pro. Jing Gao the dean of OEC expressed a great deal of colorful words. She urged the students to celebrate their accomplishments and remember that they will work as members of teams. She proceeded to outline three things a decent student should know 1. Know china 2. Understand your dream. 3. Contribute to the world. She closed her speech with a motto “Dream to succeed, together we can. “

” How can you be a good doctor…,” asked Dr. Zhou Xiadong, General surgeon from Kangfu Hospital. He gave a very good short welcoming speech on what it is to be a good doctor. His tips incorporated adapting great communication skills, being aware and keeping confidences.

White coat folded, handed over to the students by Dr Zhou Xiadong. Moment of laughter and joy proceeded as students don their coats to recite the Hippocratic Oath for the first time. Recitation led by Dr Zhou Xiadong.

Ester, 5th year medical student, gave students an insight of what students will face and how to overcome it. To summarize

1. Some concepts take time to understand 24 hours is not enough for a medical student

2. Early start for license exams

3. Build Self-confidence

4. Importance of Setting goals.

5. Great need of creating a balance between academic and social life.

Dr. Xu Xiao IMSA patron gave closing remarks. In her speech she included Chinese proverb "jiao xue shang zhang". Expressed growth brought through good strong communication between a teacher and student. She further encouraged students to be self-disciplined, self-directed and keen to learn more.

The event ended with a happy birthday melody to wish the Dean's B'day. and group photos.
