The Opening ceremony and scholarship awarding ceremony for the overseas students of Jiangsu University (JSU) was held in the academic auditorium on October 31, 2018. The opening ceremony marks the formal matriculation of all intakes for the 2018 overseas students of Jiangsu University. Scholarships were formally awarded to the winners and excellent students.

The occasion was graced by:

- Vice President of Jiangsu University, Prof. Zhao Yutao.

- Director of International Office, Prof. Li Zhongxing.

- Vice Director of Academic Affairs Department, Prof. Feng Zhigang.

- Vice Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Wang Changda.

- Vice Director of Student Affairs Department, Dr. Ren Zezhong

- Director of Language and Culture Center, the Dean of School of Liberal Arts, Prof. Ren Xiaofei.

- Dean of Overseas Education College, Prof. Gao Jing.

and many other leaders of various departments in JSU.

Also honored guests, teachers and representatives of the different schools, scholarship winners, association leaders, student representatives, freshmen and continuing foreign students turned out enmasse for this historic ceremony. All students were seated and dressed formally as the program commenced exactly by 1:30pm.

The facilitator and host of the opening Ceremony, the OEC Vice-Dean Miss Cai welcomed all the invited guests, students and introduced all the University officials. She anchored the introduction of all the speakers and award presentations. The University vice president, Prof Zhao Yutao gave the opening speech in which he warmly welcomed all students to the ceremony and the new academic year. Representatives of teachers and freshmen gave very motivating speeches. After all speeches were given the invited guests had the opportunity to award scholarship winners their certificates and congratulated them as well as encouraged other students to also aim to earn the awards in following years. The OEC Vice Dean, Miss Cai thanked all the dignitaries and guests for their presence and officially ended the opening ceremonyas well as introduced the commencement of the OEC annual conference .She expressed her happiness and pride in her students that had showed up on time for the event and made a good impression on the invited guests. She welcomed all students once again and gave a brief introduction on the benefit of choosing JSU to pursue our dreams.She encouraged students to endeavor to get involved in many campus activities in the years ahead. She also reiterated the importance of discipline and highlighted details of disciplinary actions and punishments given to some students in the last year to serve as a deterrent to continuing and new students. She stressed the need to comply with university regulations and uphold the laws of China. She introduced various platforms JSU could provide to students and encouraged them to fully utilize them.

The opening ceremony was a resounding success and has set a good pace for the academic year.
