The English Corner is a activity organized by the JEWELS International Ladies Association of OEC in collaboration with the Jiangsu University Affiliated Middle School as part of community service program aimed at promoting social responsibility. It's objective is to help the middle school children improve their English speaking abilities while simultaneously promoting cultural exchange between them and foreign students through interesting activities organized once in every fortnight.

The first introductory session was held on Friday November 23, 2018 between the hours of 15:00 and 16:30 at the Jiangsu University Affiliated School, facilitated by JEWELS ladies, namely Tamunonengiofori Selina Sydney, Perceive Chimhuva, Aimalohi Momoh, Nama Yaa Prempeh, Ruchi Kumari, Salome Yakubu,Tanaka Sasha Mungofa and Ellen (JEWELS’Talent Coordinator) as English teachers, in the company of Ms Sun Jianying. There was a total of 24 students in the 8th Grade.

Mrs. Sun gave the introductory remarks before the JEWELS talent cordinator, Ellen organized ladies and led in introducing the purpose of the program to the students and self introductions.

In no time, an atmosphere was created where students had the opportunity to interact, socialize using only some basic English vocabulary. They were divided into four groups, with each group containing six students and two coordinators. The children introduced themselves in a very marvelous way and everyone got to know each other. It was quite interesting to hear the children express their colourful dreams for the future in English. It was a pleasant time filled with spectacular moments to treasure and be juvenile once again. The students were taught English songs. Some of them also sang beautifully and displayed their own singing talents. It was quite an impressive, prettily and playful sight to watch.

The last activity was "Pick and Act" . In this activity, the students wrote interesting English words on pieces of papers And put them together. A student would then randomly pick a word and act it out while the other guessed the relevant English word from the body language.

With big smiles on their faces, the students were indeed excited to be part of the day' s activities. They responded positively with cheers as the activity ended by 16:45 and were eager and quite curious to what JEWELS English Corner will bring forth to the table during the next session.
