On Monday, 10th December, about 24 students of the Overseas Education College of Jiangsu University, from diverse countries, accompanied by the Vice Dean, Ms Cai, together with other teachers from the students’ affairs department were privileged to visit two companies, namely Zhenjiang Naisi Advanced Materials Co., Ltd. and CECEP Solar Energy Technology (Zhenjiang) Co. Ltd. all located in Zhenjiang New Area. The trip was organized by Zhenjiang’s Immigration Bureau and had officers of the Bureau in attendance and guiding throughout the visit, which was well organized and pleasant.

The students on arrival at the company premises were welcomed by the company’s Operation Director and fellow staff members of the company. The students were then taken through the production lines of the company which consisted different production stages, where steel cord was produced from wire rod.

The process include the purchasing of the wire rod cord material of different diameters, of about 5.5mm, taken through a First drawing process, Heat treatment process which includes solvite treatment, Second drawing process, Heat treatment @ about 1000° + plating process where copper and zinc are plated, to make a brass plating of about 2µ and a further Third drawing process which is employed for smaller diameter cords, and finally a Bunching process where the wires are bonded together into cords.

The students saw the production process which is mostly automated, for the production of very large tons of steel cords and the very high-quality finished products which includes mostly Super tensile steel cut with diameters between 0.05mm and 0.8mm, which were transported to China and overseas, which found their application in Automobiles for car tire reinforcement, amongst other applications.

The students were then welcome to the conference room where students asked questions and their concerns provided with a well and vivid answers, after which thanks were expressed to the company for their lovely reception.

Next, the students on arrival at the second company were welcomed by the company staffs and were led through the company’s facility by the Overseas Business Head. The students were firstly taken to see the company’s museum where the company’s history, affiliations and products were narrated and seen. The students were then led to one of the cell factories, where solar panels produced from silicon as a major raw material were manufactured with very high- automation technology.

The production processes are all in a line format included Diffusion, Cleaning, Testing of each finished cell for any errors by the automated machines, with human workers carrying out quality control and equipment maintenance.

The students were also shown the company’s Solar Power Plant, where various solar panels, inverters, environment monitor, solar cleaning robot etc. were located, while the operation of the system were well explained to the visiting party.

Finally, at the company’s conference room, the students were shown a video introducing the company profile and its subsidiary companies. Students’ questions were entertained and well answered.

Students were also informed to tap into the opportunities that exist in China and preferably in the company and help the company to market its product in their home countries. The good news is that, the company is willing to accept students for internship and the CEO advised students to obey the rules governing China so as to enjoy a fulfilling life in China while studying.
