Enlightenment, Entertainment @ Ladies Chit-Chat Night
In celebration of International women’s day, Jewels hosted a casual night of conversation, enlightenment, entertainment and female empowerment on Saturday the 9th of March. The evening started off with a video of female empowerment with icon Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie giving a TED talk on the influence of books on the mind of young children and how they view the world and themselves and how a mind limited to the experience of one life story can close one's view of the world.
Soon after watching the video we dove into an interactive discussion moderated by Nzovwa aka auntie Gwen. The discussion covered topics that affect us all as women such as friendship, aspirations, relationships and much more. During the discussion questions were posed, questions that pushed us out of our comfort zones and led us to share our opinions, experiences and advice with one another.
Topics discussed during the event included definitions and the different types of abuse, how to help a friend who is being abused, social media and self esteem, to name a few. I can confidently say that all who were in attendance benefited from and thoroughly enjoyed the session, and it was promised that the discussion will continue in future Jewels events. After the discussion, the ladies were armed with popcorn and refreshments and we proceeded to watch the hit movie “Hidden Figures” together.
Ladies chit-chat night was a fun and inspiring event, I mean what screams International women’s day more than a group of women sharing knowledge and experiences?
