OECians Celebrate Mid-Autumn with Elders
Viewing the Moon, Thinking of You:
“As the bright moon shines over the sea, from far away you share this moment with me. For parted lovers’ lonely nights are the worst to be. All night long I think of no one but thee. To enjoy the moon, I blow out the candle stick. Please put on your nightgown for the dew is thick. I try to offer you the moonlight so hard to pick, hoping a reunion in my dream will come quick.
On Monday 9:00am 11th September, seven overseas JU students led by a student leader Mr. Kama strolled into Silver Hill Gate Community of Jinshan street to send greetings to the old people in the community. Volunteers from Zhenjiang museum warmly welcomed JSU representatives upon their arrival. This was as a result of welcoming the Mid-Autumn Festival with deep feeling.
After the kind reception, the event quick started with performances by the volunteers. They shared classic poems related to Mid-Autumn festival, and overseas students also created a strong festive atmosphere through performances.
However, making and sharing mooncakes as well as fruits is the pleasure of this festival. In view of this, lots of fruits and moon cakes were provided to commemorate this event.
Volunteers handed out blank cards to both Chinese reps and international students, creating beautiful “creative dye cards” with inks of various colors. Old people wrote down what they want to apprise to their families as well as send a warm festive message across on the cards.
Overseas students also transcribed down their cheerful message to mark the beginning of the festival. JU students felt in a state of love and missing for their relatives but due to the atmosphere created by the lovely and friendly Chinese co-participants, students overcame this feeling and felt excited to be part of this family. With the help of volunteers, JU students learnt to express the blessings of Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinese.
During the activity, volunteers also shared classic poems related to Mid-Autumn festival, and overseas students created a strong festive atmosphere through performances.
Worthy JSU foreign family including; Kama, Shane, Sulley, Ti Coul, Kenzo, Mighty and Abdul Aziz displayed a high sense of feeling for participating in this cultural & festive event.
The festive event was fruitful and all participants were with much euphoria to express their pleasure and hope to have more of similar events in future due to its uniqueness and exposure. It’s our burning desire to disclose our special and profound gratitude to Mr. Wang Bin and OEC for giving us this boundless opportunity to partake in such a festive event. Thank you!
