Freshmen vs Seniors Sports
Organised by: JSU International Students' Sports Association (ISSA)
Dates: 1-7 October
Time: 12pm-4pm and 4pm-6pm
Attendees: 400+This year's Freshen vs. Senior Badminton tournament was held on the 1st of October in the University gymnasium. The event was organized by ISSA and it was very well managed. There were 12 boys and 8 girls eagerly waiting to compete. The matches were being held under the guidance of senior OEC badminton team players. Many students and friends of the players came to see the matches and to cheer their favorite ones. There was a friendly atmosphere all around despite being a tough competition. Players played fairly and gave their best to win the first spot.
But at the end there is only one winner. The men singles final was won by Wilson and Avni won the women singles finals. The winners were awarded gold medals. After the match the players greeted each other and the tournament ended in a good manner and gave players the determination to perform well in the other coming tournaments.
This Volleyball tournament was organised on the 2nd of October, with the purpose was of attracting more freshmen to join our ranks and build a better team!
The event was held on the volleyball courts in front of C9 dormitory; there were 50 participants and a lot more spectators. There was a random ballotting for choosing teams and at last we made 4 teams in which 2 were composed of freshmen and other 2 were from seniors side.
Soon after deciding the teams we started the matches at 4.30pm, all the matches were knockout matches but each match had 3 sets of 15 pts each. All the matches were very close and competitive.
The finals were between Team PARTH and Team ANBU. Congratulations Team ANBU.
On Thursday the 3rd of October the tennis players were out to play. The tennis session was such an interesting one as we welcomed new faces; some who were seasoned players and others new to the game of tennis. The games started slowly, but within no time there were some exciting rallies and a display of great skill and ball control by players. The beginners commenced the session by learning the basics of tennis which include how to correctly play the back hand and forehand.
Most of the session involved round robin doubles matches where some players such as Michael Mubaiwa and Imran gave the other players a run for their money. Overall the tennis games were a success and midway through the session the games attracted other OEC students that watched the games whilst others even joined us to play. The players did express how they would like to have more frequent games which was taken note of and we are thankful to ISSA for organizing the games for us.

The table tennis event took place on Friday 4th of October at 2pm in the school gymnasium.
13 Males and 3 Females were present to grace the event.
10 matches were played in all and the final match was between the top 3 freshers (Anki, Clinton and Tiliwa) and 3 of our senior players (Gagan, Dr. Db and Osei Yaw Francis).
The senior players won by 2 games to 1 since it was a best out of 3 game. In the female category, Ama Asomaniwaa won the gold and left Suhani with the silver medal. All in all, it was a very exciting event and a successful one.
As others view football as just a game, for these young and talented players, the soccer has become a beacon of unity, a platform to burry depression and anxiety, opportunity for them to interact with each other as one ‘family’ despite their cultural, religious and nationality diversity. On Saturday 5th Oct, 2019 at the middle pitch, as part of the ISSA’s Freshmen vs Seniors event both males and females came out in their numbers to participate in soccer of which matches were played among both genders.
Mr. Yusif the head coach of the OEC male & female football team, as well as the captains of both teams showed up to facilitate the sports event. The purpose of this sports code was really achieved at the end. In fact, all members were with much excitement and euphoria to participate in such event and looking forward to participate in such games.
The Cricket Tournament which was organized by ISSA and sponsored by CURRY KURRY was a fantastic tournament involving 3 teams namely NEWTON, HIPPOCRATES AND DAVINCI. It was a well-organized tournament with around 40 players and proper umpires.
Many of the freshmen showed their talent as it was the main aim of the tournament. Overall it was a successful tournament and the winners and runners team were Team Newton (led by Huzaifa) and Team Hippocrates (led by Yashvaant). Team Newton elected to bat first after winning the toss and posted a huge total of 168 which meant Hippocrates had to chase 169 in 12 overs and they never looked to chase it under pressure handing over Team Newton a big victory.
