Recently, one of our very own OECian Mr. Walter Munashe Chanaka was one of over 20 students selected to participate in the competition for Jiangsu University Best Netizen Award. Amongst these 20 students, Mr Walter Chanaka was exceptionally the only foreign student. After passing the preliminary stage, the students had to go through an oral defence using Chinese language as the medium of communication and Mr Walter was selected to be the 2021 Jiangsu University Best Netizens.

When he was asked about how he felt about the award he simply replied by saying, “The higher we’re placed, the more humbly we should walk “. He also showed his gratitude to OEC who he says have been of great support towards his success in Jiangsu University. He further added that he is forever grateful for the support and mentorship he receives. Mr. Walter has been famously known for his work in Olive Media for over five years now. Outside from his skilful work in Olive Media, he has held several student leadership positions from different other associations and departments which have earned him awards and tittles naming him one of the Best Outstanding Social Contributors.

Apart from being an outstanding student he is also excellent in his academics having graduated his bachelors degree with a high GPA and awarded an excellent graduate status. From his first year to final year he has won excellent student scholarships. In 2019, he participated in the Tri-U Seminar & Symposium and was awarded the founder’s award for Excellent Academic Exhibition and Best Workshop Award. His biggest award as of date is the Zhenjiang Culture Ambassador Award.

This year alone he was a finalist in the National Chinese Bridge Competition, awarded as Alibaba Superstart Promotion Ambassador, 2nd in the Calligraphy, painting and talent art of Jiangsu University Competition, won 2nd prize in Jiangsu University one minute Chinese Creative Video and was awarded the Outstanding volunteer award. He is a serial award winner who remains an inspiration to many individuals as he is known to always be very humble and kin to help other students to achieve their goals.
