International Students Showcase Talent in Chinese Handwriting Essay Contest

The “Understanding China” (读懂中国) essay contest, an initiative organized on 21st May 2026 by the Committee for the Care of the Next Generation and supported by the Overseas Education College has officially concluded. The event provided a vital platform for international students to share their unique life experiences, personal growth, and cultural immersion in China.

The contest drew nearly 60 participants from 30 different countries, all of whom submitted handwritten essays in Chinese characters to articulate their personal stories. Following a comprehensive assessment of all submissions, 35 students were advanced to the final round to compete for top honors.

The competition concluded with the recognition of 35 winners, including 4 first-prize, 13 second-prize, and 18 third-prize recipients.

By leveraging literature as a bridge and fostering friendship as a rallying force, the contest successfully highlighted the sincere efforts of international students to engage with and appreciate Chinese culture. The students' work has been published on the official WeChat account of the Overseas Chinese Federation of Jiangsu Province. Additionally, scanned copies of the original handwritten essays will be displayed on the first-floor screen of the Jing Building in due course. Interested students are encouraged to review these works once they are displayed to gain insights and prepare for future contests.

The Overseas Education College and the Committee for the Care of the Next Generation extend their heartfelt congratulations to all winners for their hard work and perseverance and remain committed to expanding the "Understanding China" series of activities by providing platforms for personal development to empower international students to serve as ambassadors of cultural exchange between China and their home countries.
