On September 28, 2025, First Class of the New Semester for International Students in Jiangsu was held at Nanjing University of Science and Technology. The delegation from Jiangsu University was led by Ms. Wang Limin, Secretary of the Directly-Affiliated Party Branch of the Overseas Education College, together with international student counselors Ms. Lu Yan and Ms. Mu Yage, along with 20 Jiangsu Provincial Government Scholarship student representatives.

A highlight of the event was the speech delivered by Josh Moo, a freshman from Malaysia, who was selected as a representative of all new international students in the province. In his address, Josh shared how he first learned about China through social media, which inspired his decision to study in Jiangsu. He especially mentioned the memorable moment when Mr. Xu Kunlin, Governor of Jiangsu Province, personally handed him the admission letter from Jiangsu University during an official visit to Malaysia----a gesture that made him feel deeply honored and aware of the responsibility ahead. Quoting the Chinese saying, “Those who share the same vision are not kept apart by mountains and seas,” he expressed his determination to fully engage in his life in China, strive for academic excellence, and contribute to scientific and cultural exchanges between China and other countries. His heartfelt speech resonated with the audience and was met with warm applause.

TENAR DARMA CAHYANI (the 7th student from the left in the picture) , Indonesian freshman, International Business and Trade 2025, is one of Jiangsu Government Scholarship Winners from Jiangsu University.

After the ceremony, other international student representatives shared their thoughts:

•Tommy Zhu (Zhu Yanpeng) from Solomon Islands said he felt inspired and already regards Jiangsu as his second home for the next four years.

•Arya Maharjan from Nepal expressed her commitment to focusing on her studies, improving her Chinese, and taking an active part in cultural exchanges, aiming to become a globally-minded professional.

First Class of the New Semester provided a valuable opportunity for international students to better understand Jiangsu and China. It encouraged all participants to become ambassadors of cultural exchange and work together toward a brighter, shared future.
