OECian Michael Won 2nd in Chinese Speech Competition

On August 28, the finals of the Chinese speech competition of ‘100 Countries Youth Talking About A Community With A Shared Future For Mankind’ was jointly organized by the National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association together with Beijing Language and Culture University in Beijing, China. Michael Lordmark Mubaiwa, a Zimbabwean student from our Overseas Education College won the second prize in this National competition.

From March 2022, a total of 19 contestants from 16 countries entered the finals through the collection of entries from all around the world, preliminary screening, guidance from tutors and semi-final evaluation. The finals were presided by Xu Baofeng; Director of The World Sinology Center of Beijing Language and Culture University and President of the the Belt and Road Research Institute, Cao Wei; Deputy Secretary General of the National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association, Sun Jianhua; Deputy Secretary General of the International Confucian Federation, and Zhang Yan; Program host, Director announcer and winner of the China News Award also served as one of the Chinese judges. Faiza KAB; a foreign expert of the people's network, Alessandro Martini; The Italian representative of informal talks, the champion of the first 100 nations youth speech contest who is also an alumnus of Beijing Language and Culture University served as the foreign judge panel.

Micheal Mubaiwa from Jiangsu University chose the unique perspective of ‘Cultural Communication’ to discuss how young people should tell a good Chinese story. He delivered his speech in a unique way by exhibiting his past efforts, achievements and future plans in disseminating Chinese excellent culture in an all-round way through a vlog display, theme exposition and on-site defense. His performance was highly praised by the judges, and finally won the National second prize.

This speech contest has promoted Chinese and Foreign youth to enhance understanding, gain friendship and grow together through mutual learning and build a community with a shared future for mankind with the strength of the youth. Micheal’s outstanding achievements also shows the quality and reputation of his work and serves as an epitome for Overseas Students who are keen in Chinese education and using it as a tool for knowledge and growth.
