Diversity Club for Performing Arts

YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT

Founded in the year 2016.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Talent Development: To identify, develop, and showcase the artistic talents of international students in areas including but not limited to singing, dancing, music, and stage performance.

Cultural Exchange: To create a platform where students from diverse cultural backgrounds can share and celebrate their unique artistic traditions and heritage through performance.

Community Building: To unite international students through shared artistic experiences, fostering friendships, mutual understanding, and a supportive community.

Artistic Excellence: To promote high standards of performance quality and encourage members to pursue artistic growth and excellence.

Representation: To represent the Overseas Education Center and international student community at university-wide and external events, competitions, and cultural festivals.

Networking: To build connections with other student organizations, cultural institutions, and artistic communities both within and beyond Jiangsu University.

Collaboration: To actively partner with Chinese student clubs and other student associations within the OEC, fostering cross-cultural friendships and joint artistic projects that celebrate both Chinese and international cultures.

University Support: To assist the Overseas Education Center and Jiangsu University in organizing and executing the annual International Cultural Festival (ICF) and other university-wide cultural events representing the international student community.

PRIMARY FOCUS FOR MEMBERSHIP

Eligibility Criteria and Target Cohort

Membership in The Diversity Club is open to all students enrolled at the Overseas Education Center (OEC), Jiangsu University, regardless of nationality, cultural background, field of study, or prior performing arts experience. The association welcomes students with diverse talents including singers and vocalists, dancers, musicians and instrumentalists, stage performers, and any student passionate about the performing arts and cultural exchange.

MAJOR EVENTS

Event Name - The Diversity Club Annual Talent Show

The flagship event of the association, the Talent Show is a grand showcase where members and invited performers display their artistic abilities across multiple disciplines including singing, dancing, instrumental performance, and stage acts. This event celebrates the incredible diversity of talent within the international student community and provides a professional-quality platform for performers to shine. The Talent Show brings together the entire OEC community and serves as the premier cultural event of the academic year.

Event Name - The Diversity Club Dance Battle

An exciting competitive event that brings together dancers of various styles and backgrounds to compete in a friendly yet spirited atmosphere. The Dance Battle features individual and crew-based competitions across multiple dance categories, showcasing everything from hip-hop and contemporary to traditional cultural dances. This event encourages healthy competition, pushes dancers to excel, and creates electrifying entertainment for participants and audiences alike.

Event Name - The Diversity Club Disco Night

A vibrant social event that combines music, dance, and community building in an energetic and celebratory atmosphere. Disco Night provides a space for members and the broader student community to come together, enjoy music from around the world, and dance freely in a fun, relaxed environment. Featuring themed decorations, curated playlists, group dances, and interactive activities, this event strengthens social bonds within the association and creates lasting memories.

DC LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE

EXECUTIVE MEMBERS RESPONSIBILITIES

HEAD OF ASSOCIATION

The Head of Association shall:

• Preside over all meetings and any other official activities and functions of The Diversity Club.

• Be the official spokesperson of The Diversity Club unless otherwise delegated by him/her.

• Approve all expenditure of The Diversity Club.

• Delegate or assign functions to the other Executive members from time to time.

• Represent the association in all external matters and institutional communications.

• Serve as the primary liaison with the OEC administration and university officials.

• Coordinate the activities of all leadership positions and ensure cohesive operation.

• Oversee the planning and execution of major association events.

DEPUTY HEAD OF ASSOCIATION

The Deputy Head shall:

• Assist the Head of Association in the execution of his/her duties.

• Perform the duties of the Head in his/her absence, with the same power given to the Head.

• Perform any additional duties assigned to him/her by the Head of Association.

• Coordinate meeting schedules, agendas, and minute-keeping.

• Oversee membership records, attendance tracking, and member database management.

• Supporting coordination between different teams (dance, music, vocals, stage).

DANCE LEADER

The Dance Leader shall:

• Manage and direct the dance team and all dance performers.

• Creating, selecting, and teaching choreography for performances and events.

• Organizing and conducting regular dance rehearsals with appropriate scheduling.

• Selecting dance routines that reflect cultural diversity and artistic quality.

• Ensuring dance performances meet the quality standards of the association.

• Mentoring and supporting dancers of all skill levels.

• Collaborating with the Music Coordinator and Stage Act Coordinator for integrated performances.

• Maintaining an inclusive environment that welcomes various dance styles and traditions.

MUSIC COORDINATOR

The Music Coordinator shall:

• Managing instrumental music, backing tracks, and sound arrangements for performances.

• Coordinating with musicians and instrumentalists within the association.

• Ensuring sound equipment is available, functional, and properly managed during events.

• Working with the Master of Singers and Dance Leader to create cohesive musical productions.

• Selecting appropriate music that complements performances and respects cultural diversity.

• Assisting with audio setup and technical sound requirements at events.

• Maintaining a library of musical resources and backing tracks.

MASTER OF SINGERS

The Master of Singers shall:

• Managing and directing the vocal team and all singers.

• Organizing and conducting regular singing rehearsals with appropriate scheduling.

• Selecting songs and vocal arrangements for performances and events.

• Providing vocal guidance and basic coaching to singers of varying experience levels.

• Ensuring vocal performances meet the quality standards of the association.

• Collaborating with the Music Coordinator on musical arrangements.

• Organizing solo and group vocal performances appropriate to each event.

• Fostering an encouraging environment for singers to develop their vocal abilities.

PUBLICITY AND WELFARE OFFICER

The Publicity and Welfare Officer shall:

• Managing all promotional activities including social media, posters, flyers, and digital content.

• Creating and distributing event announcements and invitations.

• Photographing and documenting events for archival and promotional purposes.

• Managing the association's online presence and public image.

• Monitoring and addressing the welfare and wellbeing of association members.

• Facilitating team-building activities and social gatherings for members.

• Assisting new members with integration into the association.

• Serving as the primary point of contact for inquiries about the association.

STAGE ACT COORDINATOR

The Stage Act Coordinator shall:

• Designing and planning stage layouts, lighting concepts, and visual presentations.

• Coordinating the flow of performances during events and ensuring smooth transitions.

• Managing backstage operations including performer cues, entrances, and exits.

• Overseeing props, costumes, and stage equipment needs.

• Collaborating with all performance teams to ensure cohesive stage presentations.

• Ensuring safety protocols are followed during all stage activities.

• Contributing creative ideas for enhancing the visual impact of performances.

• Documenting stage plans and technical requirements for each event.
